Cooperatives come home
Co-operatives United takes place in Manchester from Wednesday 31st October to Friday 2nd November and marks the close of the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives. It is set to be an inspiring global festival of events and exhibitions. With 1 world premiere, 3 exhibitions, 10 conferences, 45 countries, 150 workshops, 200 exhibitors and 10,000 people, Co-operatives United will inform and inspire those attending to build an ethical economy and a better world.
Cooperatives United is the culmination of a momentous year. Since the launch of the International Year of Co-operatives in New York at the end of last year, cooperatives worldwide have campaigned together to promote a cooperative way of doing business. Cooperatives United will bring together everything the cooperative movement has been celebrating this year - business and ethics, small and large businesses, people from around the world.
The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) will be holding a special General Assembly to discuss a blueprint for Cooperative Decade. The '2020 Challenge' is for cooperatives to become the acknowledged leaders in economic, social and environmental sustainability. The ICA will aim for the cooperative model to become the most preferred, and fastest growing, form of enterprise.
The Domains.coop team will be exhibiting at the
ICAExpo, so come and say hello if you're attending - you will find
us at the ICA stand (F15B, Central 2) by the entrance. We are
working with the ICA to encourage cooperatives to showcase their
strong values and principles by using the .coop domain for their
website and emails.
If you're not able to attend, the Global News Hub has a team of over 20 people covering the event http://www.manchester2012.coop/live. From articles and blogs to live broadcasts and video, this is the place to find out what's happening and catch up on sessions relevant to your cooperative. Take a front row seat to watch live broadcasts from the main auditorium, follow the stories that emerge from conferences, workshops and fringe events. Plus take the opportunity to connect with virtual delegates from around the world, through the interactive chat channel. Domains.coop will also be providing our own coverage of the event so follow us on facebook.com/domainsdotcoop and twitter.com/domainsdotcoop.
