For the last decade, Domains.coop has been registering domains exclusively for cooperatives. This summer, its website has been a given a fresh new look.
For the last decade, Domains.coop has been registering domains
exclusively for cooperatives.
This year is the International Year of Cooperatives. Many of the world's one billion cooperative members and 100 million employees are involved in some way in raising public awareness of the cooperative movement. If anything, the changing economic climate itself has shown how robust the model is, and many workers, consumers and business owners are sitting up and taking notice.
.coop is one of a handful of names that appear at the end of a web address, like .edu and .gov. Each .coop registration is manually verified to ensure that they are only awarded to bona-fide cooperatives. ICANN, the organization responsible for the introduction of top-level domains, is currently processing nearly 2,000 applications for new ones, including .charity and .farm. This may usher in a new Internet age, where organizations' sites are identified by their last prefix. This will only increase the relevance of a .coop domain name.
We're so pleased with our new site; we've made a video (see below). If you like it, please share it with cooperatives you know!
